On the Road Playlist (Desi)
There may be dozen that are not on the list, which should be on the playlists, but I have decided to go only with the ones that are my personal favorites.
Musafir Hoon Yaaro( Movie – Parichay ; Year – 1972)
A vintage classic song by the legendary Kishore Kumar glorifying the feeling of wanderlust in his mellifluous voice, this one definitely sums up the wonderful feeling of being a traveler. The lyrics of this song on a breezy road are good enough to leave you high especially the one - “
Raah Ruk Gayi to Aur Jud Gayi,
Main Muda to Saath Saath Raah Mud Gayi”
Dil Dhadakne Do / Khaabon Ke Parinde / Sooraj Ki Baahon Main
(Movie – ZNMD; Year 2011)
A road trip, Farhan Akhtar & Co., Shankar Ehsaan & Loy - This pretty much sums up the equation of the songs and the movie.
All the songs mentioned above make it to the playlist for “On the road”.
To keep it short, no one can capture travel and road trips better than the Akhtar siblings can
Aao Milo Chalein (Movie – Jab We Met; Year – 2007)

A made for the road song which emphasizes the golden rule of travel i.e.,
The Journey is more important than the destination, as the lyrics aptly say out “
Hum Jo Chal Ne Lage, Chal Ne Lage Hai Yeh Raaste,
Aahha Manzil Se Behatar Lagne Lage Hai Yeh Raaste”.
Sung by the tailored for travel singing talent Shaan, this one is definitely a must on trips in the countryside.
Tanha Dil ; Singer : Shaan
One of the most loved and evergreen pop hits of the ’90s, this song never ceases to amaze me every time I listen to it.
I still remember the video being played on Channel Oxygen and MTV during the ’90s and how incredibly it narrated the journey.
These final three songs are probably personal favorites and IMO underrated not just as travel songs but have never made it to the chartbusters.
Chalte Chalte – Jal the Band

If I had to define my college days, it would just be in one word “Jal – The Band”.
Never a day passed when I did not hear the band or any of their songs.
While I would reserve an article for them, this song is necessary to hear if you have not heard it.
In addition, it features Amrita Rao in the video.
Zindagi ka Safar / Allah Hafiz (Movie – Bhool Bhulaiyya ; Year – 2007)This one is a definite true blue travel song giving the listeners and the traveler the magic of “Keep moving on” in the journey.
The song is sung by KK and can be easily identified as one song, which reflects the fun of traveling through a coracle.
Banjara (Movie – Chef; Year – 2017)

This one is a hard-core personal favorite.
The movie is highly underrated and so is the song.
Sung by the rock star Vishal Dadlani, the music composition is by Raghu Dixit. For me, Raghu Dixit is one of the best musicians in this country and I really would love to hear more of his compositions.
